A Russian company indicted by special counsel Robert Mueller for its alleged involvement in a 2016 election meddling scheme is using some of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh's legal arguments to back up its motion to dismiss the case, Law & Crime reported.
The legal website reported lawyers for Concord Management and Consulting LLC filed a 295-page motion with the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, where Kavanaugh currently serves as judge.
Kavanaugh is referenced nine times, the outlet reported — including one case in which he wrote: "[W]e caution the government that seeking criminal penalties for violations of [laws regulating foreign nationals' political contributions or expenditures] will require proof of defendant's knowledge of the law . . . There are many aliens in this country who no doubt are unaware of the statutory ban on foreign expenditures . . ."
Campaign Legal Center's Brendan Fischer tweeted Kavanaugh's opinion provided some key help in narrowing the scope of the case.
Law & Crime's Colin Kalmbacher wrote Kavanaugh's legal rulings could "offer the defendants more than a little bit of comfort."
