Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich said Tuesday, after Fox News reported on a picture showing Joe Biden and his son, Hunter golfing in the Hamptons with a person connected with the Ukraine natural gas company, that he doubts the former vice president's contention that he never spoke with his son about his high-paying job with the firm.
"I just say to anybody who is watching the show today, I have two daughters are now grown," Gingrich told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "If one of them had a $600,000 a year job, don't you think I would probably would know a little about it? I'd say boy, good job. You are doing really well."
The photo, obtained by Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight," shows the Bidens golfing with Devon Archer, who had served on the board of the gas company, Burisma Holdings, with Hunter Biden.
Last month, however, Biden told a Fox News report that he had never spoken with his son about his overseas business interests, and instead said it is President Donald Trump who "deserves to be investigated."
Hunter Biden, meanwhile, said he and his father spoke "just once" about this work in Ukraine.
"Remember, this is only one of his jobs," said Gingrich. "Hunter was out there pulling in the money. Furthermore, The New York Times had written a story about it in I think December of 2015. Not that his dad necessarily read every "New York Times" story but it is about both Hunter and Joe Biden."
Gingrich also on Tuesday said it should not be surprising that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was on a phone call between President Donald Trump and the president of Ukraine, as news reports indicate.
"If the Secretary of State seems to be participating in a phone call with a foreign president, it strikes me as normal," said Gingrich. "Had Sec. Pompeo heard something he thought was inappropriate in that conversation he would have turned to the president and said so."
