House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has scheduled a conference call for the Democratic caucus following Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ resignation at the president’s request, Politico reports.
Rep. Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, will give a briefing on the potential consequences of Sessions’ ousting Thursday afternoon, a Democratic congressional source told Politico.
Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and California Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, will also brief members.
House Democrats on Thursday also released an open letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, asking him to convene an emergency hearing on President Donald Trump’s appointment of Matthew Whitaker as acting-attorney general, noting that Trump’s “decision to force the firing of Attorney General Sessions places Special Counsel Mueller’s inquiry at grave risk.”
