Maryland GOP Larry Hogan said Sunday Republicans had a “big night” on Tuesday, touting the election results as “a mandate for moderation and working together.”
In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Hogan hailed the wins in both the House and Senate.
“It was a really big night for Republicans across the country,” he said. “We held on to the Senate. We gained seats in the house. We gained governors seats, legislative bodies, gained state legislative seats. Republicans across the country were running ahead of the president. I don't think it was a mandate for moving to the far left.”
“I think it was a mandate for moderation and for working together because people are frustrated with the divisive and angry politics,” he asserted. “At some point we have got to try to work on lowering the temperature and working together on bipartisan common sense solutions to the serious problems facing the country.”
Hogan said there’d been no evidence of election fraud so far, and speculated investigations of the allegations in three states could actually add to the tally for Biden, who cinched a win Saturday.
“I wasn't a supporter of Joe Biden's, but I am a supporter of the democratic process and the way we have always conducted our elections,” Hogan said. “So I think some of them are making mistakes. Hopefully, that will change in the next couple of days as we get the last three states in. I think Vice President Biden's lead could actually increase from where it is today.”
According to Hogan, “a couple of Republican governors are responsible for a couple of the states in question.”
“They haven't questioned the results,” he said. “We want to make sure every single vote is counted fairly, and I think there are legal processes if you think there are mistakes but I don't think we are going to see anything that will overturn the election and I haven't seen any evidence of widespread [fraud].”
