Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are likely to secure primary wins in New York on April 19, according to an
Emerson College poll.
The poll was conducted from April 15 to April 17, 2016, with 361 likely GOP primary voters and 438 likely Democratic primary voters.
In the Democratic voter poll:
- 55 percent of likely Democratic voters support Hillary Clinton.
- 40 percent of likely Democratic voters support Bernie Sanders.
In the Republican poll:
- 55 percent of likely Republican voters support Donald Trump.
- 21 percent of likely Republican voters support John Kasich.
- 18 percent of likely Republican voters support Ted Cruz.
Republican voters in the poll said their top issue is how dissatisfied they are with the government, while Democratic voters' main concern is jobs and unemployment.
In the Republican poll:
- 40 percent of likely Republican voters are dissatisfied with the government.
- 19 percent of likely Republican voters are concerned about ISIS and terrorism.
In the Democrat poll:
- 22 percent of likely Democrat voters are concerned about jobs and unemployment.
- 21 percent of likely Democrat voters are dissatisfied with the government.
Bernie Sanders gained some ground since an Emerson poll last week. He was at 38 percent to Hillary's 56 percent then.
The Emerson College poll results echo similar polls conducted April 10 by
Fox News, which showed Trump ahead in New York at 54 percent to Kasich's 22 percent. Clinton had less of a lead in the Fox News poll, at 53 percent to Sanders' 37 percent. More voters in New York were undecided.
