Heritage Foundation's interim president assured shaken staffers, despite the ouster of Jim DeMint, the conservative organization will continue to be "Donald Trump's favorite think tank," the Washington Examiner reported.

"We were Ronald Reagan's favorite think tank," Ed Feulner told some 300 staffers at a Tuesday night meeting aimed to calm fears in the wake of DeMint's resignation, the Examiner reported.

"And today we are, and will continue to be, Donald Trump's favorite think tank."

The Examiner, citing audio of the meeting, reported Feulner discounted rumors Heritage would leave politics behind, and asserted it would "keep working with [Trump] to make things better" and occasionally "point out to him maybe little errors in some of his policies."

The Examiner reported some critics believe DeMint, the former Senator from South Carolina, was forced out for making Heritage too political.

But according to the Examiner, Feulner emphasized he will be working with Heritage Action CEO Mike Needham, who leads the organization's lobbying branch, and Needham will remain "at my side reminding [House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis.] that we are who we are and what it is that we stand for."

"He wants to work with us," Fuelner said of Ryan, the Examiner reported. "He wants to hear what we have to say, and I think we can have a very good and positive relationship."
