About 200 liberal activists stormed into the lobby of The Heritage Foundation's D.C. offices Tuesday, saying they opposed the conservative think tank's budget proposal.
According to Phillip Stuckey, a reporter for The Daily Caller, protesters were put on buses with no idea where they were going and were taught what to chant on the bus ride there.
Among the chants were "Water, Not Walls!" a reference to the Flint, Mich., water crisis organizers believe is not being properly addressed, and President Donald Trump's proposed border wall.
Stuckey told The Daily Signal, the journalism arm of Heritage, he had been covering a small protest near the White House by the liberal group People's Action when those on hand were loaded onto bus, and he was offered a seat. He took organizers up on the offer and embedded himself with the protesters.
In addition to learning the chants, protesters were told not to tweet or Facebook anything until after the protest, Stuckey said. They were told Heritage was responsible for Trump's budget because Trump himself was not smart enough to develop a budget.
They also were instructed not to talk to media, he said.
The protesters made their way into the Heritage lobby, where they stayed for about 20 minutes before leaving, Philip Wegman reported at the Washington Examiner.
"They swarmed into Heritage because they didn't like the ideas the think tank produced," Wegmann said. "And instead of trying to help reach consensus with traditional protest, they tried intimidating the opposition."
In response, Heritage staffers took to Twitter thanking People's Action for bringing Heritage's budget plan into discussion.
