Dershowitz: Manafort Trial Outcome Will Have Implications on Mueller Probe

Dershowitz: Manafort Trial Outcome Will Have Implications on Mueller Probe

By    |   Friday, 17 August 2018 10:49 AM EDT

Harvard Law professor emeritus Alan Dershowitz said the outcome of the Paul Manafort trial will have implications on special counsel Robert Mueller’s credibility.

Dershowitz made his comments Friday on Fox News’ "America’s Newsroom."

The jury in the fraud trial of Manafort, former Trump campaign chairman, ended its first day of deliberations on Thursday.

Dershowitz said any outcome will impact Mueller’s probe.

"It will have implications one way or another for the credibility of the Mueller probe," he said.

"Look, if there is an outright acquittal it will certainly damage the Mueller probe. If there’s a conviction, it will strengthen it."

But he said: "It is very easy to get a conviction in federal court for somebody who has had this kind of relationship with the truth in his economic life. Juries don't like people who wear fancy clothing, $2,000, $10,000 suits, million dollar this and that."
