Poll Shows SC’s Nikki Haley’s Ratings Improving

By    |   Tuesday, 24 April 2012 12:08 PM EDT

Gov. Nikki Haley’s approval ratings have increased among South Carolinians, and her support is growing stronger among her own Republican base, according to a poll released Tuesday.

Nearly 38 percent of the state’s residents approve of the job Haley is doing, the Winthrop University poll found. That’s up from December, when a Winthrop poll showed a less than 35 percent approval rating.

Sometimes mentioned as a potential vice-presidential pick, Haley got a solid 60 percent approval rating from state Republicans and independent voters who lean Republican. In December, a little less than 53 percent of that bloc said they approved of the way the first-term governor is doing her job.

Overall, more South Carolina residents are feeling good about the way things are going in the state. Almost 25 percent more respondents said South Carolina is on the right track, compared to a Winthrop poll in February.

The latest Winthrop poll of 981 adults in South Carolina was conducted April 15-22 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.13 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
