President Donald Trump's goal on his first trip abroad later this month will be to "broadcast a message of unity," national security adviser Gen. H.R. McMaster said during a press briefing Friday, the Washington Examiner reported.
The president's purpose is also to strengthen alliances with U.S. allies while he visits Saudi Arabia, Israel, Italy and Belgium, where he will attend a NATO meeting. He is also expected to stop in Rome and meet with Pope Francis at the Vatican.
Trump will "broadcast a message of unity to America's friends and to the faithful of the followers of three of the world's greatest religions," McMaster said.
"President Trump understands that American First does not mean America alone. To the contrary, prioritizing America's interests means strengthening alliances," he added.
Trump will be the first sitting president to visit the birth places and holy sites of the world's three major religions — Christianity, Judaism and Islam, the Examner noted.
Since taking office, Trump has already held meetings at the White House with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in February and Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in March.
