Rep. Nehls to Newsmax: Credit Card Companies Creating Gun Registry

By    |   Wednesday, 28 September 2022 07:49 PM EDT

Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, railed against credit card companies tracking firearms purchases on Newsmax, arguing it creates an artificial gun registry and that criminals would instead use cash.

Appearing Wednesday on "The Chris Salcedo Show," Nehls said, "Well, you see, all these organizations are trying to track everything we do, whether it's a credit card company and everything else.

"Law-abiding citizens, guys like me, when I went out and purchased my last handgun, I used a credit card."

During the interview, Nehls asked, "How is it going to make us any more safe" to know if someone purchased a handgun with a credit card compared to someone who would obtain a firearm illegally?

"How does that make the American people more safe? Because I'll guarantee you, Tommy Turd, the convicted felon, isn't using a credit card to go down to the local gun shop. He's not going to do it. He's going to use the green dollar. And he's going to buy it in the alleyway, you know, and buy from some other felon or crackhead that stole it from my truck or somebody."

According to a report from Politico, Visa, along with other major credit card companies, will begin categorizing gun shop sales.

In response, according to Fox News, a coalition of nearly 100 Republicans sent letters to Mastercard, American Express and Visa pressuring them about their reported support for creating unique codes identifying specific firearm purchases.

Republicans argue that the action taken on behalf of credit card companies is a proxy for a backdoor gun registry.

"It's a registry is what it is. They want to track us. They want to track us," Nehls concluded.
