Run For Something, a group focused on getting young progressives to become candidates in local elections, is set to launch Fund For Something, a portal to send donors to those candidates, Politico reported.
"The launch of this new program will help build the progressive bench — but more than that, it has the potential to save lives," Amanda Litman, the group's co-founder, told Politico.
The first wave of 29 candidates is running in 14 states, all against candidates that the National Rifle Association has backed, the website reported.
"Taking out NRA shills at the state legislative level is a major step in turning around the daily gun violence in this country," Litman told Politico.
Fund For Something will send potential donors straight to candidates, without taking a cut. This way, Run For Something can support candidates without facing campaign finance laws in individual states, Politico reported.
Fifty percent of the candidates that Run For Something supported in 2017 won their races, according to the group's website.
