Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Sunday that Congress’ goal amid a government shutdown isn’t to reopen, but to “fix a broken immigration system” — and blasted Democrats as representing “the radical left.”
In an interview on CBS News’ “Face The Nation,” Graham, an ally of President Donald Trump, said he wants to open the government again.
"But the goal is not to open up the government,” he said. “The goal is to fix a broken immigration system, to bring reality to this table… We’re not going to give in to the radical left.”
He also decried Democrat refusal to meet the president’s demands for border wall funding, The Hill reported.
“We’re having to negotiate with people who want to abolish [Immigration and Customs Enforcement], not support ICE,” he said. “We’re having to negotiate with people who see border patrol agents gassing children, rather than defending our borders as professional law enforcement officers.”
"And we’re negotiating with people who will ... accuse all of us who support a wall as part of border security as racists. As long as the radical left is in charge, we’re not going to get anywhere.”
