Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden holds a massive lead over President Donald Trump in Maryland, according to the latest poll from Goucher College, which was released on Thursday.
In a survey of likely voters conducted by the school’s Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center, Biden comes out with a firm majority and a virtually insurmountable lead in the state.
- 60% support Biden.
- 31% back Trump.
- 5% don’t know or refuse to say.
- 4% would vote for a third-party candidate.
The poll also found that Trump has a dismal 32% approval rating in Maryland, with 67% disapproving of his job performance.
Most likely voters in Maryland, 51%, said they plan to vote in-person, either on Election Day or earlier, while just under half, 48%, will vote by mail. According to the survey, most Democrats, 59%, will vote by mail, while most Republicans, 72%, will vote in-person.
“Given the political demographics of the state, it’s never been a question of whether the Biden Harris ticket would carry Maryland, but rather by how much,” Mileah Kromer, director of the Sarah T. Hughes Field Politics Center, said in a statement. “If this gap in voter preferences widens just slightly on Election Day, it would result in the largest margin of victory in Maryland for a presidential candidate since President Lyndon B. Johnson defeated Barry Goldwater in 1964.”
The Goucher College Poll surveyed 1,002 adults in Maryland, with 776 likely voters and a margin of error of +/- 3.5 percentage points.
