President Donald Trump plans to appoint Sebastian Gorka to a role on the National Security Education Board for a term of four years, reports Politico.
Gorka, who worked as a counterterrorism adviser and member of the White House’s Strategic Initiatives Group for less than a year, has been a vocal defender of Trump’s policies and public statements.
His departure was widely accepted after then White-House chief of staff John Kelly took over and cleaned house.
The 14-member NSEP board consists of several cabinet members and six individuals appointed by the president “who shall be experts in the fields of international, language, area, and counterproliferation studies education and who may not be officers or employees of the Federal Government.”
Its purpose is to oversee scholarships, grants, study abroad programs and fellowships pertaining to national security, language and foreign policy.
Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., slammed the move.
“A white nationalist like Gorka would have no place in any decent presidential administration,” he tweeted in reference to Gorka’s alleged ties to a Hungarian group with alleged historical links to Nazi Germany.
“For Trump racism and fascism are a feature, not a bug.”
