Rep. Bill Flores says President Donald Trump should eject his family from the White House following the explosive revelation that his son Donald Jr. and son-in-law Jared Kushner secretly met with a Russian operative with ties to the Kremlin.
"I'm going out on a limb here, but I would say that I think it would be in the president's best interest if he removed all of his children from the White House — not only Donald [Jr.], but Ivanka [Trump] and Jared Kushner," Flores, a Texas Republican, told KBTX-TV on Thursday.
He added that he had "issues with the meeting" last year at Trump Tower in New York City, in which Trump Jr., had hoped to be given dirt on Hillary Clinton that could help Trump Sr. get elected president.
"It's a meeting that should not have taken place," said Flores, who has represented Texas' 17th congressional district, including Waco, College Station and Bryan, since 2011.
Flores later attempted to tone down his suggestion in a statement to The Texas Tribune, in which he took a jab at the "liberal media."
"Through no fault of their own, the presence of President Trump's adult children in the White House has caused some distractions from the work the Trump administration is doing on behalf of hardworking American families," Flores said.
"Given the liberal media's unwavering scrutiny of the Trump administration, it may be beneficial for the president to do all he can to remove any distractions from the administration so that he can focus on our conservative agenda."
