Republicans "moved the needle" Wednesday in convincing some Democrats that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas' policies are causing major problems at the U.S. border, says Rep. Mark Green, R-Tenn.
During a hearing on the human cost of border crisis before the House Committee on Homeland Security, "a couple of them actually acknowledged that there was a massive crisis at the border," Green said Wednesday during an appearance on Newsmax's "Carl Higbie FRONTLINE."
"They have to because Democrats across the country are saying that: Mayor [Eric] Adams in New York and the governor in Massachusetts as two examples. We also loved it because they didn't defend Mayorkas' policies; all they did was attack [former President Donald] Trump.
"They spent the entire committee hearing going back to Trump and the 5,000 people that were separated, or children that were separated — all in the face of they're separating 400,000 children."
Green said one Democrat lawmaker recently acknowledged privately that Mayorkas "should be fired. But when they get together in a group, they're locking arms and defending. But at least today they didn't defend; they actually deflected, which is a good sign."
Republicans are showing everything that Mayorkas has "failed to do, the laws he's refused to enforce, and potentially some laws that have been violated; and today was actually an interesting look into that," he said.
