A Texas Republican has introduced a resolution calling for House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-NY, to be removed from his seat for pursuing impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump before they were formally backed late Tuesday by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Rep. Lance Gooden said in a release that Nadler has acted against the will of the House of Representatives, reports Fox News. The House voted by 332-95 in July to table an impeachment resolution presented by Rep. Al Green, D-Texas.
"This attempted coup against a duly elected, sitting president is unprecedented and must be stopped," Gooden said. "I urge the majority to move immediately to have him stripped of his chairmanship and that any accomplices on the Judiciary Committee not be considered as a replacement."
Pelosi said, while announcing the formal inquiry, that committee investigations such as Nadler's will continue. The New York lawmaker and other committee Democrats have already been calling their probe impeachment proceedings, and last week, Nadler called former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski before the House for testimony said to be related to potential impeachable behavior by Trump.
