Donald Trump's plan to deport children who were born in the United States to illegal immigrants is "inhumane and un-American," fellow GOP presidential candidate George Pataki said Tuesday, and he thinks the term "anchor babies" is "pejorative."
"This is not a term that I would use," the former New York governor told
MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program. "A baby is born here. It's a failure of the system if we allow pregnant women to come here for the specific purpose of giving birth to a baby."
Further, Pataki said that he finds Trump's immigration plan just "wrong."
"The whole response of the Trump immigration policy is we're going to round up 11 million people, put them on buses take them to foreign places, send them back to places many have never been to, is wrong," said Pataki.
"Under Trump's plan, a 10-year-old girl, born in the United States, does well, is fluent in English, never been out of the country, never been to Mexico ... an American citizen, never done anything wrong," Pataki said. "Will you have police or soldiers go into that classroom, grab that girl and say, 'Sorry your parents didn't have the right papers. We're sending you to a country have you never been to before.' It's ridiculous."
He said plans to turn around the 14th Amendment and its provision for birthright citizenship is also "absolutely crazy," and railed against candidates who either support or seem to support the plan.
"It doesn't make sense," said Pataki. "It will never happen."
