Former Vice President Joe Biden lashed out at President Donald Trump Friday for sending good wishes to ex-White House aide Rob Porter, who resigned amid allegations that he abused two of his ex-wives, ABC News reported in a tweet.
Speaking to a small crowd, Biden seemed flabbergasted that Trump said he thought Porter had done a good job at the White House and that the president wanted to "absolutely wish him (Porter) well."
"That's like saying 'that ax murderer out there, he's a good painter,'" Biden began.
"Is there any other crime – and it's a crime – where there'd be an explanation that the reason we shouldn't pay attention to the transgression is because they're good at something?"
Shortly before Biden spoke, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office that Porter had proclaimed his innocence, and "I think you have to remember that," ABC News reported.
Trump, who said he was "surprised" and "very sad" to learn about the domestic abuse allegations.
"It's obviously a tough time for him. He did a very good job when he was in the White House and we hope he has a wonderful career," Trump said.
Porter, who denies the allegations, stepped down from his White House job Wednesday. White House officials initially said they were unaware of the allegations, but it was later reported that some top aides, including chief of staff John Kelly, knew for several months.
