Attorneys who were scheduled to give depositions on behalf of Democrats in the Florida Legislature concerning Senate maps in the redistricting fight in the Sunshine State have canceled those plans.
The move comes after the Florida Supreme Court decided last week that the congressional maps in Florida violated the anti-gerrymandering Fair District amendments that voters passed in 2010 and that the current maps favored Republicans too much,
Politico is reporting.
A separate lawsuit is now making similar claims about the state Senate maps. There were depositions given in May, and pre-trial dates are beginning to be set, including the one scheduled for Friday.
One of the scheduled depositions was set to be given on behalf of Ellen Freidin, the Fair Districts Florida campaign chairwoman. Freidin's group pushed for the anti-gerrymandering laws to be passed, spending $9 million on the campaign.
A deposition scheduled to be given on behalf of Ryan Terrell, a Democratic party operative who has worked on the campaign, was also canceled.
The efforts to schedule depositions on behalf of other top Democrats have also been put on hold.
Some depositions that were supposed to happen Thursday have been rescheduled for next week.
