Ex-Agent Mike Rogers: Stop This 'Dangerous' Criticism of FBI

Ex-Agent Mike Rogers: Stop This 'Dangerous' Criticism of FBI
(CNN's "The Lead")

Former FBI official and Michigan GOP lawmaker Mike Rogers on Thursday castigated Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarrett for likening the FBI to the KGB.

In an appearance on Fox News' "Hannity" on Wednesday night, Jarrett darkly declared "the FBI has become America's secret police."

"Secret surveillance, wiretapping, intimidation, harassment, and threats," he asserted. "It's like the old KGB that comes for you in the dark of the night banging through your door."

Rogers, during remarks on CNN's "The Lead" on Thursday, was furious at the comparison.

"I can't tell you how dangerous this is," Rogers said. "The FBI is a very important institution in this country," adding the FBI is keeping America safe from child pornographers, terrorists, and organized crime and "plays a very important role in this country."

"So, when you get into this pattern of 'I agree with the FBI, they're great, oh my gosh, they're investigating someone I like, they're bad' – and then take it and ramp it up and compare them to the KGB or the Stasi is absolutely offensive."

"We need to stop this now," he added. "Republicans, Democrats, everybody. Stop dragging this institution that is going to be there when you're gone, protecting your grandkids, stop destroying its ability to do its mission. I find that stuff not only offensive but dangerous."
