Eric Trump Rips Cruz Speech: 'It Was Classless'

Eric Trump Rips Cruz Speech: 'It Was Classless'
"CBS This Morning"

Eric Trump charged out of the gate Thursday morning to tongue-lash Ted Cruz after the Texas senator refused to endorse his billionaire dad for president during his address to the Republican National Convention.

Noting the pro-Trump crowd's displeasure at Cruz Wednesday night in Cleveland — they booed him and even heckled his wife Heidi — Eric told "CBS This Morning":

"I think the people in this arena spoke for themselves. I thought it was classless, to tell you the truth. I thought it was a little bit classless.

"If you're going to a convention, you either support or don't go at all."

Cruz's speech is being seen as a stepping stone to a possible presidential run in 2020 and as the ultimate payback for Trump's relentless attacks on him and his family over the past year.

Trump nicknamed Cruz "Lyin' Ted," posted an unflattering photo of his wife next to a glamour shot of Melania Trump and even hinted that his father Rafael Cruz was involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

The crowd at the Quicken Loans Arena became so worked up that Heidi Cruz had to be escorted out by security as Trump supporters yelled "Goldman Sachs!" at her —  a reference to where she works.

Eric Trump told the CBS News program that Cruz had "signed a pledge at the beginning of this process.

"When he didn't do the right thing people went crazy ... This room, I've never seen boos like that, I never heard boos like that," he said.

"The house, the whole auditorium was literally shaking with boos. I mean, how do you get booed out of your own convention? It was unbelievable."

Instead of burying the hatchet and endorsing Trump, Cruz merely congratulated him for winning the GOP presidential nomination and then proceeded to advise Americans to vote their "conscience" when they go to the polls in November.
