Former President Barack Obama took to Twitter on Tuesday to compare the spread of coronavirus to climate change.

“We’ve seen all too terribly the consequences of those who denied warnings of a pandemic,” Obama tweeted on Tuesday. “We can’t afford any more consequences of climate denial. All of us, especially young people, have to demand better of our government at every level and vote this fall.”

Along with writing the tweet, Obama shared an article from the L.A. Times titled, "Trump weakens fuel economy standards, rolling back key U.S. effort against climate change."

Obama also criticized President Donald Trump for dialing back an initiative meant to clean up the environment.

On Tuesday, the Trump administration said they were cutting an emissions standard regulation to clear the way for cheaper car purchases. That standard was established during the Obama administration.

In response to Trump's policy change, U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao wrote in a statement: "By making newer, safer, and cleaner vehicles more accessible for American families, more lives will be saved and more jobs will be created."

Environmental Protection Agency administrator Andrew Wheeler also backed the measure.

“Our final rule…strikes the right regulatory balance that protects our environment, and sets reasonable targets for the auto industry,” Wheeler said.
