Economic gains likely will be showcased at Tuesday's policy luncheon with President Donald Trump on Capitol Hill, according to Senate Republican Policy Committee Chairman John Barrasso.
"Nobody talks about the success of the economy better than President Trump," the Wyoming Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."
"If you want to jump start an economy, you cut taxes, you get rid of the red tape and you unleash energy. That's exactly what President Trump and Republicans have done."
As a result, unemployment is at an all time low, at 3.9 percent, "the first time, I think, in 17 years it's been that low," said Barrasso, and consumer confidence is at an 18-year high.
"Three million new jobs have been created since President Trump has been elected," Barrasso said. "You are talking about an America First economy. The president has a wonderful story to tell and he tells it very well."
The economic gains also will help protect Republicans against the predicted "blue wave" that some say will happen in November, Barrasso agreed.
"People are looking at the economy," he said. "Sixty-six percent of Americans, according to on new poll, say the economy is doing very well. People see it in their paychecks. They see it in their home communities. I saw it in Wyoming in the past weekend, talking to small business owners. People are hiring. People are getting to keep more of their money. Bonuses are being paid."
That is a national trend, he stressed, and he thinks it will help Republicans in November, "as long as the president keeps telling the story, because it's such a good story to tell, because of the impact at home."
