President Donald Trump on Tuesday ripped New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo for saying that all states should be “treated the same,” telling the Democrat to “keep politics out of it.”
Trump tweeted Tuesday morning: “Cuomo wants ‘all states to be treated the same.’ But all states aren’t the same. Some are being hit hard by the Chinese Virus, some are being hit practically not at all. New York is a very big ‘hotspot’, West Virginia has, thus far, zero cases. Andrew, keep politics out of it....”
New York state has the most confirmed coronavirus cases in the country, with 950 as of Monday afternoon. Cuomo’s office said in a statement this week that the state will "organize the National Guard and work with building unions and private developers to find existing facilities -- such as dormitories and former nursing homes -- that can most easily be converted to medical facilities, with the goal of creating an additional 9,000 beds.”
Later Tuesday, Trump also slammed "Failing Michigan Governor" Gretchen Whitmer, another Democrat, saying she "must work harder and be much more proactive. We are pushing her to get the job done."
During a phone call with governors Monday, Trump said that states should work on their own to get additional medical supplies and equipment in response to warnings from health experts saying that more respirators and ventilators are needed to help coronavirus patients.
Trump tweeted after this teleconference that “Cuomo of New York has to ‘do more.’”
Cuomo responded: “I have to do more? No — YOU have to do something! You’re supposed to be the President.”
