President Donald Trump – under continued fire for his embrace of Russian President Vladimir Putin at a summit in Helsinki this week – posted on Thursday a clip of Hillary Clinton saying that she wants a "strong Russia."
"Will the Dems and Fake News ever learn? This is classic!" Trump tweeted.
In the undated clip, Clinton is heard telling an interviewer, "We want to very much have a strong Russia because a strong, confident, prosperous, stable Russia is we think in the interests of the world."
Earlier in the day, Trump on Thursday complained on Twitter that the "fake news media is going crazy" in its Russia-Putin narrative, adding that it wants to see a "major confrontation with Russia" instead of diplomacy.
It's unclear which stories specifically the president believes are "total fiction," save for all of them, but he's been under the gun from all sides - including Fox News - over his remarks in Helsinki that ostensibly absolved Russian president Vladimir Putin from interfering in the 2016 elections.
He’s now twice had to wriggle out of remarks that he's made this week.
