Loyalists for President-elect Donald Trump have been vehemently speaking out against Mitt Romney's candidacy for Secretary of State because of Romney's refusal to support Trump's campaign this summer, but "Never Trump" conservative Mindy Finn rushed to Romney's defense Sunday on Twitter.
Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway, on CNN's "State of the Union," and surrogate Newt Gingrich, on "Fox & Friends Sunday," spoke against Trump's potential selection of Romney for the premium Cabinet position.
Those comments prompted criticism from Finn, who served as Independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin's running mate:
Finn added in an ensuing tweet: "Rather than Cabinet shenanigans, focus on who is capitulating to Putin's assault on the country we love."
It was a reference to allegations Russia was involved in hacking into emails of the Democratic National Committee this summer and a Washington Post report that Russia perpetrated a fake news campaign against Hillary Clinton to impact the Nov. 8 election results.
