President Donald Trump has laid out a "generous" plan on immigration and the Deferred Action For Childhood Arrivals program, and the Senate should start acting on the issue, Sen. John Barrasso said Wednesday.

"I think President [Barack] Obama acted illegally when he put the DACA plan in place,' the Wyoming Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom.

"I think President Trump is absolutely right. The judges have gotten it wrong. It needs to go to the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, there should be a legislative solution to handle the DACA issue, said Barrasso, and now is the time.

"President Trump has offered a very generous plan to deal with it," he said. "It is time to act and the Senate ought to be acting today."

However, there are bills on the floor to be debated and discussed, but Democrats don't seem to want to move ahead with them, said Barrasso.

"For my part, I want to make sure we have secure border and the laws are enforced, and make sure our citizens are safe," the senator added. "President Trump has laid out a four-point plan, four pillars of immigration. I think it's vital we go to that point."

Barrasso also discussed Trump's plan on infrastructure, saying he has offered a "very robust plan" on the matter.

"I think it's important to proceed on those issues in terms of fixing our roads, our highways, our dams, our ports," said Barrasso. "There is lots of work that needs to be done and the president is a builder."

Nationwide, projects are not getting the permits needed to streamline them, and that needs to change, he continued.

"We had a small project in Wyoming that took 14 years to get the permits lined up," said Barrasso. "The project is less than two years to build. The state spent over 10,000 hours of state employee time just to get the permits from the federal government to do it. That has to stop. We need to get these projects done."
