A leader of the most conservative group of Republicans in the House of Representatives announced that the group plans to hold a private meeting with Donald Trump to discuss Trump's positions,
according to the Washington Examiner.
Louisiana Rep. John Fleming, a top member of the Freedom Caucus, said the group has questions about Trump's policy stances, including such topics as abortion, minimum wage, and national defense.
"Many of us have questions about what Trump's positions really are," Fleming said in the Examiner report. "We want to make sure we are on board with each other."
Fleming was part of a group that had a private meeting with Speaker of the House Paul Ryan on May 10, ahead of the speaker's meeting with Trump on May 12.
"The question becomes at what point do we unify?" Fleming said. "We are going to have to build a platform for our convention."
Members of the Freedom Caucus are wary of Trump, according to a
Talking Points Memo report in March.
"A lot of us are really nervous," Arizona's Rep. Matt Salmon said in the Talking Points Memo report.
Arizona's Rep. Trent Franks told Talking Points Memo, "As a conservative, I cannot trust Mr. Trump to do the right thing."
Louisiana's Fleming was among the members of Louisiana's Republican Party that signed a declaration that said the party would support Trump,
according to the NOLA Defender.
