Donald Trump is in the midst of trying to clean up his perceived image as Democrats launch an all-out assault on the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.
Trump met with
The Washington Post and told the paper he plans to address his image on the campaign trail and will explain why he has said certain things that some people have found offensive.
For example, the real estate mogul told the Post his
controversial comment about Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly last summer had nothing to do with her menstrual cycle. He also shot down suggestions that
he was mocking a handicapped reporter during a rally last November.
"I would never say anything bad about a person that has a disability," Trump said. "I swear to you it's true, 100 percent true. . . . Who would do that to [the] handicapped? I've spent a lot of money making buildings accessible."
Trump came under fire over the weekend after
a New York Times article painted him as demeaning toward women. He claimed the allegations were false, and a woman featured in the article
said her words were taken out of context.
Priorities USA, a super PAC partial to Democrat Hillary Clinton, has begun
an advertising blitz against Trump as it tries to discredit Trump and everything he stands for.
Trump said he'll counter the attack by being honest on the campaign trail.
"I may explain this stuff during speeches," Trump told the Post. "It may be old news, it may not be old news, but I'm just telling you."
