Two prominent Democrats are calling for the ouster of Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, after she criticized last week's U.S. strike against the Syrian government and questioned whether Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was involved in a chemical weapons attack that left at least 85 people dead, The Hill reported.
"People of Hawaii's 2nd district — was it not enough for you that your rep met with a murderous dictator? Will this move you?" Neera Tanden, the president of the Center for American Progress, tweeted April 7 in response to Gabbard's comments on CNN she was "skeptical" Assad was involved in the chemical weapons attack despite claims from the Trump administration it had evidence of Assad's connection.
Gabbard called President Donald Trump's decision to sign off on a U.S. attack on Syria days later "reckless."
"It flew directly in the face of the action that the U.N. was working on at that time, to launch an independent investigation, to find out exactly what the facts are, who was involved, and who was responsible, so the appropriate consequences could be levied," she told CNN host Wolf Blitzer.
"This is a disgrace," Howard Dean, the former chairman of the Democratic National Committee, said. "Gabbard should not be in Congress."
He added: "Engaging in dialogue isn't the problem. It's claiming there is doubt Assad uses chemical warfare. She sounds like Trump making excuses."
