Democrat DeFazio: Obama's Re-election in Trouble

By    |   Friday, 19 August 2011 01:41 PM EDT

With President Barack Obama’s approval rating hovering around 40 percent, it’s no secret that his re-election bid won’t be easy. Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., came out and stated the obvious, Portland’s KGW News reports.

“With a respectable, someone who is a little bit toward the middle-of-the-road, Republican nominee, he’s going to have a very tough time getting re-elected,” said DeFazio, a founding member of the House Progressive Caucus.

He sees Obama as no sure bet in Oregon, which the president won with almost 57 percent of the vote in 2008. “I've just done six town hall meetings,” DeFazio said. “People are shaking their head and saying 'I don't know if I’d vote for him again.' I believe Oregon is very much in play.”
