Reporters involved in covering the Democratic presidential primary are reporting that they have received threats from supporters of Bernie Sanders.
New York Times political reporter tweeted that supporters told her they would "hunt her down in the streets."
After the Associated Press declared Hillary Clinton the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee ahead of Tuesday's primaries, some reporters said they received "angry communications" from Sanders supporters.
Danny Spriggs, the AP's vice president of global security, told AP reporters to be careful and "practice situational awareness" after the threats, according to a memo posted by
Poynter.
The memo said that the AP had not received specific threats, and instructed reporters to point to a blog post to explain why the AP made its declaration.
Politico reported that its reporter Gabriel Debenedetti received emails calling him a "corporate whore."
WNYC reporter Andrea Bernstein, a woman, wondered in a tweet if male reporters were also being threatened.
NPR’s Tamara Keith re-tweeted a profanity-laced message she received that said, "Good job lying about the primary." She then tweeted, "Today is going to be awesome!"
Sanders said that "the struggle continues" to the next primaries, according to
CNN. When a TV screen at his rally showed his losing numbers, the crowd chanted “Bull (expletive)!”
