The nomination of Elaine McCusker to be the next Pentagon comptroller has been withdrawn by the Trump administration, a Senate aide told Politico on Monday.
The withdrawal comes after McCusker reportedly questioned the legality of holding up the lethal Ukraine military aid, last summer's foreign policy move that triggered the House Democrats' impeachment attempt of President Donald Trump.
Her Senate confirmation hearing might have proved to be an opportunity for Democrats to question a Trump administration official with direct knowledge of the holdup of Ukraine aid, which could have been particularly difficult amid her reported questioning of the legality of it.
McCusker has been the acting comptroller since last summer and helped deliver the details of the Pentagon's $741 billion military budget request.
Her ouster as the official nominee had been previously reported by the N.Y. Post.
The Pentagon did not comment on McCusker's revoked nomination or whether she would continue to serve as comptroller in the meantime, per the report.
