Former Ku Klux Klan grand wizard David Duke is contemplating running for Congress to replace Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise.
According to
The Daily Beast, Duke — who served in Louisiana's statehouse from 1989-1992 — said he's leaning toward rejoining politics.
"I've very seriously set up an exploratory committee to run for the United States Congress against Steve Scalise," Duke said. "I expect to make a decision in a few days."
The deadline to get himself on the ballot is July 22.
Duke told The Daily Beast the attack that left five Dallas police officers dead at the hands of a black man last week stoked the political fires in him.
"I don't take any satisfaction in the fact that I was right, but I have been right," Duke said. "Unless European Americans stand up, they are going to lose everything they care about in this country."
Duke left the KKK in 1980 and has founded several groups since, including the European-American Unity and Rights Organization in 2000. He said Scalise addressed that group two years later when Scalise was serving as a member of the Louisiana House.
Duke
says he supports Donald Trump for president.
Last week,
he voiced his support for a Trump tweet that allegedly had an anti-Semitic tone.
