Democrats are trying to set a trap for President Donald Trump with their 10 page memo on FBI surveillance and he should call their bluff, his former deputy campaign manager David Bossie said Friday.
"My advice to the president would simply be release it," Bossie told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program.
"Release it in its entirety, with no redactions."
He added that before he took that drastic step, he'd go back to the Democrats who wrote they document and tell them that if there is material in the memo that is sensitive, they can change it themselves.
"I would tell them 'you either can change it because you are playing political games, or you want me to redact it and trying to set me up for a cry from the left to say I'm hiding something,'" said Bossie.
Either way, there is no question that the Democrats' memo is a "plain and simple trap," said Bossie, who heads the conservative advocacy group Citizens United.
"The people at the White House must recognize that. They do recognize that. I would release it in its entirety over the objections of the national security team because I would say to the Democrats, 'this is on you, I am not going to redact anything because the American people will be told lies by you, that I'm hiding something when I am not. It is 100 percent your responsibility to make sure this memo is able to be released."
He added that he does not think Democrats should be allowed to dictate the rules with their memo.
"We should not play the game and fall into their trap of redactions," said Bossie. "That's what they want. This happened in the 90s to an investigation I was overseeing. We redacted material because the committee made an effort to try to protect somebody's privacy. It turned out it was a trap and we fell into it. I would never do it again."
