Rep. Meuser to Newsmax: IRS Must Probe 'Loan Repayments' to Biden

By    |   Wednesday, 24 January 2024 08:25 PM EST

Rep. Dan Meuser, R-Pa., told Newsmax on Wednesday he wants the IRS to determine if $240,000 given to President Joe Biden by his brother James Biden and his sister-in-law Sara Biden were legitimate loan repayments.

Meuser, a former head of Pennsylvania's Department of Revenue, told "American Agenda" that the checks of $200,000 from James Biden in March 2018 and $40,000 from James Biden's wife Sara in September 20217 marked as loan repayments to the president stick out among the "mountains of evidence" in the House impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden.

"The fact that they wrote on the [checks] that [were] made to Joe Biden 'loan payment,' now they feel somehow or another just by writing that, that clears them from any other documentation requirements or payment of taxes," said Meuser, a member of the House Financial Services Committee.

"The problem is, that's the oldest trick in the book. On a state level and federal level, when you create a loan and make a loan to someone, it's legally required to have a promissory note, a reasonable interest payment, to have signatures on that loan amount so it's legitimate."

Meuser wrote a letter Jan. 17 to IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel requesting the IRS "undertake a thorough review and provide detailed responses regarding the compliance of these loans with IRS regulations, focusing on documentation, interest rates, recordkeeping, potential reclassification, legal implications, and specifically, the collection and reporting of interest on these loans."

"If he won't give me the documentation because of privacy, I'm demanding he look into it and get back to us with the answers as to whether or not that documentation exists," Meuser said. "If not, the penalty is thousands of dollars in fines and jail time, which, for an average American, that is what they would be facing if they did — what I think, anyway — Joe Biden did until at least he proves those were actually loans and not just some part of his whole scandalous activities that they are involved in."
