Despite speculation to the contrary, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker says he has not thought about running for president in 2020.
In an interview for the CNN podcast "The Axe Files," the Democratic senator told host David Axelrod, "I don't know what the future's going to bring."
"I'm not making predictions, but I want to unleash the fullness of who I am right now, and I want to call out injustice where I see it," Booker said.
Booker said that he is fully focused on his job as senator at the moment and that looking at a future office would take his focus off that.
"If I start thinking about the future like that or engaging in that stuff ... I think it would make me a lesser of a senator," he said, adding that by remaining "100 percent present" when he was mayor of Newark, he ended up getting the chance to run for Senate.
Booker, a frequent critic of President Donald Trump, said he plans to continue in that role.
"I'm a guy that's going to criticize policies that, frankly, in a lot of states that are important for presidential elections would find that very much of a threat," he said. "My loyalty is to the position I'm in right now."
