Sen. Cory Booker: Menendez 'Vindicated' in Corruption Mistrial

Sen. Cory Booker: Menendez 'Vindicated' in Corruption Mistrial

By    |   Tuesday, 07 August 2018 03:34 PM

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., said that his fellow senator, Bob Menendez, D-N.J., was "vindicated" in a trial in which Menendez faced corruption charges and ended in a mistrial, Insider NJ reported.

"He was vindicated in a court of law by regular folks," said Booker, Insider NJ reported.

The jury in the case was split over whether to convict Menendez in bribery and corruption charges. The jury was deadlocked 10-2, with the majority believing Menendez was not guilty, Politico reported in November 2017.

"The average person in a diner can look at Bob Menendez’s record, on healthcare, more resources for infrastructure, children’s health insurance, and stepping up to save firefighters. His record of standing up for everyday people is incredible," Booker said.

Menendez’ opponent is Bob Hugin, who retired as a pharmaceutical executive at Celgene Corp. Booker criticized Hugin. "I don’t see how New Jerseyans who are paying too high a price for prescription drugs would put a pharmaceutical executive in there who has been jacking up prices. If you are a pocketbook person, how can you support this person?" Booker said in the interview.
