President Donald Trump's former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said Wednesday that he got no orders from the White House about his testimony before the House Intelligence Committee, and that he plans to tell nothing but the truth — that there was no collusion between Russia and the president's 2016 campaign while he was there.
"I volunteered to come," Lewandowski told Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo. "I will be happy to talk to them happy to tell you anything."
On Tuesday, Trump's ex-chief strategist Steve Bannon told the House Intelligence Committee that the White House had instructed him not to answer questions about his tenure in the White House or the transition period between the election and Trump's inauguration. Lewandowski said he got no such orders.
"What I think Steve was saying is he will be happy to answer any questions, during his tenure on campaign … if it is about something completely different what a Donald Trump has done after president-elect or as president, that is a very different investigation."
Bannon, he continued, seems as if he's willing to talk about anything that occurred while he was with the campaign, but not during his time as chief strategist in the White House.
"What you will expect from me today is exactly what you always get from me, the truth. I said, I will cooperate with any investigation that they have, whether it is a congressional investigation or anybody else who wants to sit down and talk."
Lewandowski said he will tell the committee that there "was no collusion, there was no coordination, no cooperation between our campaign when I was there."
But if there was any cooperation with a foreign entity through anybody else, "those people should be held accountable," Lewandowski said.
"This has been going on now over a year," he continued. "There has been no evidence whatsoever, that anything has taken place. Even Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the ranking member in the Senate Judiciary Committee, has said she has seen no evidence whatsoever to show any collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia ... at some point, we have to bring this investigation to a close."
