White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, who has been with President Donald Trump's administration since its beginning, said Thursday that the way to stay employed while others are being fired is to work hard and stay out of trouble.
"If you're low distraction, high production, you'll do very well here, and you'll last the longest and the strongest," Conway told Fox News' "Fox & Friends."
Conway, who started her career with Trump when she came on as his campaign manager during the 2016 campaign, further said that she considers it a "privilege and blessing" to walk into the White House "every single day to serve the country we love."
She had no personnel announcements to make, in a week during which Rex Tillerson was ousted as secretary of state and economist Larry Kudlow was announced as the next director of the National Economic Council.
In addition, FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe has been expected to retire on Sunday, making him eligible for retirement, but Attorney General Jeff Sessions is reportedly being expected to decide whether to fire him days before, denying him his pension.
Conway would not comment on whether McCabe would be fired, telling the program that decision lies with Sessions.
"On the broad issue of fairness and accountability, it's how Donald Trump got elected in the first place," said Conway.
"It is not just about draining the swamp. It is about accountability and fairness. This president took the issue of fairness, really we have the thread through everything from his views on education to immigration and to trade and to the way the government is held accountable."
She told show co-host Ainsley Earhardt, who commented that she did not think it would be fair to American taxpayers to foot McCabe's pension, that she was "glad you're shining a light on it because people do feel like they're always outside the glass with their nose pressed looking in and saying, 'This just isn't fair to me.'"
Conway further commented that she's "just fascinated with all the stories of palace intrigue and personnel, but lack of stories about policy, it is amazing. Thank God the president himself goes across the country for two solid days this week and takes his message directly to the people."
She noted that the president has met with many people who agree with his call to crack down on sanctuary cities.
"California is asking for federal assistance to repair walls and anything else under the sun but they can't respect federal immigration laws," she said. "They're harboring criminals. They're looking past the fact we have people and poison coming over the borders into our communities."
Conway also discussed tax cuts, saying that she did not want to get ahead of Trump on whether there will be a phase two on them, but that it's clear the initial phase is working.
She said she also expects that no Democrats will vote for tax cuts in a second phase.
