Presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway defended President Donald Trump's tweet he has the "absolute right to pardon" himself, commenting Monday the administration has "respected the process" of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation "tremendously."
"This White House could not have been more cooperative," she told Fox News' "Fox & Friends."
"Thousands, if not more, pages of documents have been turned over. Dozens of people sat for interviews. . . . This president himself has been very cooperative."
Early Monday, the president tweeted he has the right to pardon himself, but tweeted, "why would I do that when I have done nothing wrong?"
He also claimed Mueller's appointment was "totally unconstitutional."
Conway said the investigation should end with a report, and that ending should come quickly.
"[The president] makes clear every single day, through his considerable social media platform, where he tells Americans instantly and simultaneously, everybody hears the information at the same time, how he feels about this investigation," Conway said.
Meanwhile, he is being attacked by people who want to "pretend somehow that he will not serve out his eight years," said Conway, but "that is not happening, and so this whole exercise of whether he will pardon himself is a ridiculous question on its face, because you would pardon yourself if you have done something wrong."
