Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., said Sunday the unmasking of fired national security adviser Michael Flynn has prompted a “waking up” of Americans to a “coup attempt” to “take out” President Donald Trump.
In an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Collins lamented the prosecution of Flynn over the past three years.
“We're seeing [that] people are waking up to the real fact there was an attempt to take out a candidate and then a president before he could get going,” Collins said.
“And the American people should be demanding why every news outlet is not covering this the way you have for the last three years. Many of us have been screaming at the top of our lungs there was basically a coup attempt at the highest level.”
When national security officials seek to reveal the identity of Americans who had conversations with foreign parties subject to government surveillance it is called "unmasking."
Collins also dismissed any worries about becoming a target because of his bill to sanction China and freeze the assets of Chinese leadership.
“I hope the communist party is watching,” he said. “I'm going to stand with America and I'm tired of them trying to steal pharmaceuticals and tired of letting their own country be locked down and then lie to it to the world. The Communist Party must realize they are trying to keep their own people but that regime is destined to fail.”
