Former South Carolina Rep. Trey Gowdy said it has been four years since details of a phone call that Gen. Michael Flynn had with a Russian ambassador were leaked to the media.
The former GOP lawmaker still wants to know who leaked the classified information.
"It's a 10-year felony," Gowdy told "Mornings With Maria" on Fox Business Network on Friday.
He said the FBI spent plenty of time investigating Flynn and wants to know where the agency is on finding the leak. Gowdy said the "serious crime" of the leak must be investigated.
"So I ask the FBI again: how is your leak investigation going? I know how your Michael Flynn investigation went, I know the time and effort you spent to try to catch someone in a lie. How is your 10-year felony investigation going? It has been four years now," he said.
The former chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee also told Maria Bartiromo that he was "struck" by how many people in the Obama administration had unmasking powers. Unmasking allows national security officials to reveal the identity of people who had conversations subject to government surveillance.
"The undersecretary from Micronesia does not need unmasking power," he said.
The fact that so many people were allowed access to classified information makes it difficult to conduct a leak investigation. People listed who had “unmasking” powers included then-FBI Director James Comey, then-CIA Director John Brennan, then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, Obama's then-chief of staff Denis McDonough and former Vice President Joe Biden.
