Club for Growth has launched two new ads in the race to see who will replace former Rep. Blake Farenthold, R-Texas, The Washington Times is reporting.
The 30-second ads from the conservative group come in advance of the primary runoff on May 22.
One ad attacks GOP candidate Bech Bruun.
"Politicians are a lot like diapers," the ad says. "They should be changed regularly. Look at Bech Bruun. He's a career bureaucrat. In his plush job as a government lawyer, Bruun's never had to worry about his paycheck.
"Now Bruun's moved here to run for Congress. So, naturally Bruun opposes term limits. No way will Bruun stand with Trump to change things in Washington. Tell Bruun we need term limits because career politicians . . . stink."
The other ad is in support of Republican Michael Cloud and compares him to former Rep. Ron Paul of Texas.
"Ron Paul and Michael Cloud," the ad says. "Cut from the same cloth. Ya' might say chiseled from the same granite. Both tough defenders of liberty.
"Neither willing to bend to the corrupt ways of Washington. Maybe that's why Ron Paul backs Michael Cloud for Congress. Paul calls him 'the kind of leader with integrity, courage and moral character that the country needs.'"
The Times noted Farenthold had first said he would not seek another term after a sexual harassment lawsuit became public. He later resigned. The special election is scheduled for June 30, but the seat is also up for re-election in November, the Times reported.
