Hillary Clinton is suggesting Russia’s President Vladimir Putin may have known about the riots in the U.S. Capitol.
Clinton, the former secretary of state, made her comments on her “You and Me Both” podcast on Monday. They came during an interview with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
She maintained President Donald Trump "disdains" democracy and has unknown agendas.
"I hope historically we will find out who he is beholden to, who pulled his strings," Clinton said.
"I would love to see his phone records to see whether he was talking to Putin the day the insurgents invaded our Capitol."
And she asked Pelosi if Congress needs to establish an investigative body like the 9/11 commission to probe the Capitol riot.
"I don’t know (what) Putin has on him politically, financially, or personally, but what happened last week was a gift to Putin because Putin wants to undermine democracy in our country and throughout the world," Pelosi said.
She added, "So yes, we should have a 9/11 commission and there is strong support in the Congress to do that."
Clinton, in a Monday tweet, wrote: "@SpeakerPelosi and I agree: Congress needs to establish an investigative body like the 9/11 Commission to determine Trump’s ties to Putin so we can repair the damage to our national security and prevent a puppet from occupying the presidency ever again."
She attached an excerpt of her podcast to the tweet.
Fox News noted representatives for Clinton and Pelosi did not respond to a request for comment.
