Hillary Clinton's senior policy adviser, Jake Sullivan, warned that Donald Trump's beliefs on foreign policy appear to change constantly, and called the Republican presidential candidate a "tremendously dangerous risk."
According to
Politico, Sullivan made the comments during a foreign policy discussion with former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd at the Asia Society in Manhattan.
"It is very, very difficult to pin down where he stands on a lot of these policies," Sullivan said, reports Politico.
As examples, Sullivan notes Trump has expressed differing opinions on China, claiming both "the Chinese are eating our lunch" and "we have all the leverage in the world to make the Chinese do exactly what we want."
Sullivan believes the real estate mogul's ideas and "temperament" make him a "dangerous proposition" to be president.
Trump could spark a nuclear arms race with his statements that more countries should be allowed to have nuclear weapons, Sullivan said, according to Politico. Sullivan also criticized Trump's call to kill families of terrorists, saying, "the picture that is painted is one of a tremendously dangerous risk."
Clinton recently criticized Trump's comments calling NATO "obsolete." According to
Business Insider, Clinton said the U.S. must support its allies, not play into the hands of rivals such as Russia. Adding that "if Trump gets his way, it will be like Christmas in the Kremlin."
Clinton appears to be ramping up her attacks on Trump.
One video released by her campaign questions the contents of his tax returns.
