Retiring Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., said Sunday there ought to be a stop in the debate over climate change, and a focus on its effects instead — and that Florida could change the nation’s mindset about the issue.

In remarks on NBC News’ “Meet The Press,” Curbelo, said Florida is “where the effects of climate change are most evident,” noting the devastating effects of tidal flooding.

“We need to stop covering the debate and start covering the story, so that people see that this is real, and so that politicians take a more-pragmatic approach and find solutions that are actually achievable,” he said.

Despite the riots in France triggered by a carbon tax, Curbelo said in the United States, such a tax is “the most efficient… logical… politically viable” solution to limiting the damage of climate change.

“It's the most-efficient, the most-logical, and probably the most-politically viable solution,” he said, adding it would be on “all the American people” and that they would ultimate “trust that the revenues are going to be put to good use.”
