Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, has quarantined himself after being exposed to the coronavirus, though the 87-year-old is “not currently experiencing any symptoms,” CBS News reports.
Grassley, the second-oldest member of the Senate and the senior-most Republican, said in a statement on Tuesday: "I learned today that I've been exposed to the coronavirus. I will follow my doctors' orders and immediately quarantine as I await my test results. I'm feeling well and not currently experiencing any symptoms, but it's important we all follow public health guidelines to keep each other healthy."
His office noted that the senator, who is president pro tempore of the Senate and therefore third in the line of presidential succession, "will continue his business for the people of Iowa virtually at home."
Just last week another 87-year-old member of Congress, Alaska Rep. Don Young, tested positive for the coronavirus.
"I have tested positive for COVID-19. I am feeling strong, following proper protocols, working from home in Alaska, and ask for privacy at this time. May God Bless Alaska," he tweeted.
